National park boasts 260 rare orchid species

HCM City (VNA) – Domestic and foreign scientists have so far discovered 260 rare and precious orchid species in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park .

The park’s scientific centre particularly noted the paphiopedilum concolor, a small terrestrial orchid with dark green and grey-green mottled leaves, and paphiopedilum dianthum, a species in the orchidaceae family which is common to China .

The paphiopeilum orchid species was discovered for the first time in Vietnam in 1922.

All the precious orchid species have been put under a special preservation programme at the national park in central Quang Binh province.-Enditem
