State aid to treat pollution in public areas

Hanoi (VNA) – The government will provide funding to treat pollution and minimise environmental degradation in public interest areas. The Prime Minister issued Decision No. 58/2008/QD-TTg on April 29, which offers targeted assistance for public interest establishments to drastically treat any serious environmental pollution their facilities may be causing. The public interest areas include plant protection chemicals storehouses, hospitals, dumping grounds, areas exposed to toxic chemicals used by the US during the war and urban waste water treatment stations. The central state budget will cover 100 percent of the costs for the projects of ministries, ministerial level agencies and agencies directly under the Government. Local budgets will cover 100 percent of spending for projects under management of the People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-rim cities. The money will be sourced from environmental funds, development investment capital, official development assistance, credit establishments’ loans, aid programmes and loans from Vietnamese organisations and individuals at home and abroad.-Enditem
