· Food security must be ensured (Thoi bao Kinh te Vietnam cuoi tuan [Vietnam Economic Time Weekly], p1). Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Diep Kinh Tan said Vietnam should take the initiative in balancing food supply. President of the Vietnam Biology Association Prof. Dr. Nguyen Lan Dung: revolution should be made in both the way of thinking and actions. Prof. Dr. Vo Tong Xuan: the work that needs to be done immediately in the Mekong delta.

· Universities mushrooming (Thoi bao Kinh te Vietnam , No. 108, p9). An additional 69 universities and 28 colleges were established in Vietnam in the 2005-2007 period. Though the trend is inevitable, educators are worried about the quality, particularly infrastructural facilities and personnel, of those universities.

· “Farmers are at a big disadvantage compared with civil servants and businesspeople” (Dai Doan Ket [Great Unity], No. 76, p1). President of the Vietnam Farmers’ Association Nguyen Quoc Cuong made such a comment at the beginning of his talk with the paper.

· OTC securities at the time of price drop (Dau tu [Investment], No. 54, p1). Around 40 kinds of OTC securities, most of which belong to “big” businesses, will be registered for transaction. It is just a few compared with the number of currently operating businesses.

· Rice price is getting stable (Dau tu, No. 54, p2).

· Investors nurture hope (Dau tu, No. 54, p6). Changes on the international financial markets give hopes to Vietnamese securities investors.

· Rice export must always go hand in hand with food security in the country (Cong thuong [Industry and Trade], No. 10-11, p1). Those who are found to speculate and rig the market will be punished. Rice supply is still abundant.
