Chinese President starts five-day trip to Japan

Tokyo (VNA) - Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in Japan on May 6 for a five-day visit aimed at boosting the strategic and mutually beneficial relations between the two countries.

During his Japan visit, the first Chinese president in the last 10 years, President Hu is scheduled to meet with Japan ’s Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko on the morning of May 7 before his talks with Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda on Sino-Japanese relations and other issues of common concern, the Kyodo News said.

After talks, the two leaders are expected to issue a joint statement on global warming in which China is expected to say it will consider measures to help meet the Japanese-proposed goal to halve global greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The Chinese president is also to give a speech at Waseda University in Tokyo, visit a Chinese school in Yokohama and tour historic sites in Nara, western Japan, the agency said.- Enditem
