Thanh Hoa gears up for UN Day of Vesak

Thanh Hoa (VNA) – The Thanh Hoa Buddhist Chapter held a seminar on May 6 as part of its celebrations for the upcoming United Nations Day of Vesak. Twenty-six reports were presented at the seminar, highlighting local Buddhists’ contributions to Thanh Hoa province’s renewal and the development of Vietnam ’s Buddhism. In recent years, local Buddhist monks and nuns held campaigns to help flood victims, build houses for the poor, and care for war invalids and Agent Orange victims. The UN Day of Vesak, to run in Hanoi from May 13-17, is the world’s most important Buddhist festival marking Buddha’s birthday and his Enlightenment and entry into Nirvana.-Enditem
