Philippines appoints high-level military posts

Hanoi (VNA) - The Philippine government announced appointments to the country’s top military posts on May 6.

Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr told foreign media that Army chief Lt. Gen. Alexander Yano will replace the Chief Commander Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Gen. Hermogenes Esperon, who will retire on May 12.

Yano's post will be filled by the current chief of the Armed Forces Central Command (Centcom) operating in the Visayas, Lieutenant General Victor Ibrado. Ibrado also serves as chief of the Army Special Operations Command.

Additional appointments include the posts of vice chief of staff, deputy chief of staff and commanders of the AFP's Central Command, Eastern Mindanao Command and Northern Luzon Command.-Enditem
