Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam-China joint invested Ca Mau fertiliser plant is a symbol of economic relations between the two countries as well as the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two peoples, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung said.
The Deputy PM was addressing a signing ceremony of an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the Ca Mau project between the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) and the Wuhuan Engineering Corporation (WEC) and the China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CMC) in Hanoi on May 6.
Deputy PM Hung said the Ca Mau project, part of the 900 million USD Ca Mau gas-power-fertiliser complex in Khanh An commune in southernmost Ca Mau province, will contribute to ensuring food security for Vietnam.
He asked the project’s investor PVN and its contractors to ensure safety, progress and quality of the project.
The 52-ha plant is designed to churn out 800,000 tonnes of fertiliser per year and use natural gas sourced from PM3-CAA gas field offshore continental shelf of Vietnam .
According to PVN Director General Tran Ngoc Canh, the EPC contract will be carried out over three and a half years.
Once fully operational in 2012, the Ca Mau fertiliser plant will help increase the total fertiliser output of PVN to 1.54 million tonnes per year, meeting around 60 percent of nationwide demand.-Enditem
