Cooler summer forecast for northern region

07/05/2008 -- 11:09 AM

Hanoi (VNA) – People in the northern regions of Vietnam will enjoy a cooler summer this year, according to Dao Thi Thuy, chief of climate forecasting at the Centre for Meteorology and Climatology.

Thuy predicted that lower-than-average temperatures would last until the end of the year.

However she admitted there were no clear rules for saying what summer would bring. Thuy also predicted higher rainfall for the whole of Vietnam .

She said Vietnam was suffering the most serious effects of climate change, so people should live in a more environmentally friendly fashion.

Meanwhile, Bui Minh Tang, director of the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said weather patterns would be complicated this year by about eight big storms.

He urged people to prepare to deal with storms and warned farmers not to shelter beneath trees or in temporary bamboo shacks during strong winds.-Enditem
