Dien Bien (VNA) – Vietnam’s northern Dien Bien province reached a trade-tourism cooperation pact to 2010 with Lao neighbouring provinces Luang Prapang, Oudomxai and Phongsali.
The deal, which is founded on the economic, culture, science and technology cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese and Lao governments, was inked in Dien Bien province on May 7.
Under the pact, the Vietnamese and Lao provincial authorities committed to providing their businesses with favourable conditions to facilitate cross-border import and export activities, including opening representative offices and branches.
They also agreed to build border markets similar to the Tay Trang and Pa Hoc markets.
The provincial authorities also agreed to encourage businesses to build infrastructure for the hospitality sector and exploit the potential for tourism in their localities.
Dien Bien, Luan Prapang, Oudomxai and Phongsali provinces previously broadened cooperation to help maintain security on the shared border.
Since the beginning of the year, Dien Bien has catered for thousands of international visitors coming from Mekong sub-region countries through the Tay Trang-Pa Hoc border gate.
In the first four months, Dien Bien businesses achieved around 300,000 USD in trade with its neighbouring Lao provinces.-Enditem
