Chess masters play in Philippines

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam has three representatives at the Philippines Chess Open in Manila , which started on May 7. International Grand Masters Dao Thien Hai, Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Anh Dung are being sponsored by their local authorities. Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, who is ranked in FIDE’s top 20, was unable to attend as Kien Giang Sport and Physical Training Department was unable to meet his expenses. Vietnam will be up against leading players from China , Singapore and Iran for a total purse of 42,000 USD. The top winner will take home 6,000 USD. Afterwards, the trio will participate in another tournament in Pampanga, the Philippines , from May 16-25.-Enditem
