Thai Air Force chief denies military coup planned

08/05/2008 -- 10:55 AM

Hanoi (VNA) - Thailand’s Air Force Chief Chalit Phukphasuk said the country’s politics has not reached a dead end and there is no reason for a military coup to overthrow the government.

Although persistent rumours continue to circulate that a coup is imminent, Chalit was quoted by the Bangkok Post as reiterating that there is no reason for the army to stage a coup and that every problem can be sorted out.

Chalit also said that Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej's visit to the army headquarters on May 7 had nothing to do with the rumoured coup. It was merely "a normal practice" for the prime minister to visit the soldiers.-Enditem
