Vietnam remains priority for Swiss development aid

08/05/2008 -- 11:33 AM

Geneva (VNA) – Vietnam will continue to receive financial aid from the Swiss government for the 2009-2012 period.

Vietnam is among four Mekong nations, including Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, to remain on a trimmed-down list of priorities and regions earmarked for development assistance announced by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

Ecuador, Peru, Bhutan, Pakistan and India were dropped from the list for 2009-2012, following a Swiss government review of the country’s foreign development strategy which found it must be made “more effective”.

The announcement is the second reduction in priority countries or regions by the SDC. In 2003, the number was lowered from 24 to 17.-Enditem
