Landslide in Indonesia claims at least 19 lives

Jakarta (VNA) - A landslide at a gold mining site in Indonesia's eastern province of Papua has claimed 19 lives. The mine is the US’s Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold’s concession. A company spokesman said the accident occurred when victims were conducting an illegal mining operation, following prolonged rain. The company has joined in search and rescue efforts. Authorities said more landslides could be expected in the area.-Enditem
