08/05/2008 -- 5:41 PM

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - Malaysia is willing to continue assisting the peace process in the southern Philippines even though it is pulling its troops from the international monitoring team, said local media.

Foreign Minister Rais Yatim said Kuala Lumpur's readiness to continue its involvement would generate a positive environment in southern Philippines, Bernama news agency reported on May 8.

"In the context of the ASEAN brotherhood, Malaysia is ready to cooperate with the Philippines and study the form of assistance that could be channelled," Yatim, who ends his two-day introductory visit to the philippines on May 8, said in a statement.

Malaysia, on April 16, decided to pull out its troops from southern Philippines in stages from May 10.-Enditem
