Minister’s resignation may prompt Thai cabinet reshuffle

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand may have to conduct a cabinet reshuffle following the resignation of Sutha Chansaeng as social development and human security minister, according to a senior government official.

Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Surapong Suebwonglee, who is also Secretary General of the ruling People’s Power Party, said leaders of party factions would meet next week to discuss the cabinet configuration following Mr Sutha's resignation.

Soon after taking office three months ago, Minister Sutha Chansaeng was confronted with allegations of buying a bachelor's degree from a college in the Philippines and using a fake bank account to hide his fortune, according to the Bangkok Post newspaper.

The minister, however, tendered his resignation on May with a claim of poor health, said the paper.- Enditem
