Sony DVDs sign Galaxy as local distributor

HCM City (VNA) – Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) and its Vietnamese partner Galaxy Studio have entered into a distribution agreement that will allow the studio to release Sony Pictures Home Entertainment titles to DVD in Vietnam . The deal, announced on May 9 by T Paul Miller, SPHE’s senior vice president, and Tran Vu Hoai, president of Galaxy Studio, marks the first time a major US-based studio has agreed to release its films onto DVD in Vietnam . According to the agreement, local distribution of 15 select Sonly Pictures Home Entertainment DVD titles, including Casino Royale, Surf’s Up and the studio’s highly successful Spider Man franchise, began on May 9. Future plans call for the release of approximately five to 10 DVD titles per month and the eventual launch of high definition Blu-ray Disc releases. “This deal underscores SPHE’s commitment to growing our business around the globe and represents the industry’s first major step in developing this untapped market,” said Miller. “We strongly believe that such a partnership will bring great benefits to Vietnam ’s growing home entertainment market as well as to our two companies,” said Hoai.-Enditem
