Massive Phu Quoc infrastructure project okayed

10/05/2008 -- 10:15 PM

Phu Quoc (VNA) – A 10 billion USD project on Phu Quoc island in the Mekong Delta has received the Prime Minister’s approval and will be licensed this year, according to deputy minister of Planning and Investment Truong Van Doan.

The project, financed by groups of US and Canadian investors, involves the construction of infrastructure including ports and roads linking the island with the mainland. Once licensed, it will become one of the country’s biggest foreign direct investment (FDI) projects.

The deputy minister said another US and Canadian-invested project worth 3.5-4 billion USD would be licensed this month to develop tourism services in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.-Enditem
