Nghe An (VNA) - Vietnam launched Month of Action for Children on May 11, which aims to ensure children’s safety during summer vocation.
The event, which is to last from May 15 to June 30, calls for measures to be taken to ensure children to live and develop in safety.
Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan called on responsible agencies and social organisations to raise public awareness and supervision against child abuse and take care of high risk groups.
Steps, especially information campaigns, should be carried out to protect children from drowning during summer holidays and ensure safe passage across rivers and through the flood season which is approaching, she emphasised.
Education for all, especially children under difficult circumstances, as well as entertainments and sports are also placed high priorities during the Month of Action for Children, which will coincide with the International Children’s Day on June 1.
Ngan also called for efforts to tap all available financial resources to support disadvantaged children’s livings, cover plastic surgery and functional rehabilitations for disabled children, and build community projects and provide welfare services for the children.
The launching ceremony, held in the central province of Nghe An, helped raise 545 million VND for the provincial Fund in Support of Children.
