New Delhi (VNA) - Viet Nam will produce 1.2 million tonnes of natural rubber in 2020, said Tran Thi Thuy Hoa, General Secretary of the Vietnam Rubber Association (VRA).
Speaking at the International Conference on Natural Rubber Extension and Development held in Kochi , India , from May 8-9, Hoa attributed the country’s increased rubber output to efforts to expand the growing areas and the application of advanced techniques in production.
Vietnam ’s natural rubber output is forecast to reach 601,700 tonnes in 2008, representing a 9.6 percent increase against last year, Hoa said, adding that in 2007, Vietnam had 549,600 ha of rubber trees, up 6.3 percent over the previous year.
In order to increase rubber exports, the Vietnamese government is striving to raise the rubber output to 1 million tonnes in 2015-2020 and encouraging investment in 200,000ha in the two neigbouring countries of Laos and Cambodia.-Enditem
