Vietnam Red Cross calls for aid to Nargis victims

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) has appealed to VRC members and people nationwide to donate to aid victims of cyclone Nargis in Myanmar.

The call was made by VRC President Tran Ngoc Tang on May 12.

The Vietnamese Government had earlier decided to provide 200,000 USD as emergency aid to victims of cyclone Nargis in Myanmar, while the Vietnam Red Cross and Vietnamese enterprises pledging 70,000 USD to help Myanmar victims overcome the disaster aftermath.

VRC usually called for donations to help victims of many major disasters in the world, including the Beslan massacre in Russia in 2004, hurricane Katrina in the US in 2005, the tsunami and earthquakes in Indonesia, Thailand, India, and Sri Lanka in 2005. It sent food, medicines and money as relief from Vietnamese to foreign victims.-Enditem
