Laos, China to enhance broadcasting cooperation

Vientiane (VNA) - Laos and China have signed an agreement to further their co-operation on radio and television.

Under the agreement, China will build the network of the Chinese Central Television (CCTV) channel 4 and 9 in Laos before the Olympic Games 2008 begin and also assist Laos to improve its television system, reported the Lao News Agency (KPL). In return, the Laos Ministry of Information and Culture agreed to contribute news and information to China for broadcast on CCTV.

The partnership is an outcome the China-ASEAN Summit Forum on Radio and Television held in Beijing , China from April 21-25 with the participation of 100 representatives broadcasting organisations from China and 10 ASEAN member countries.

The three-day forum titled "Exchanges, cooperation and development" featured discussions relating to broadcasting policy, social responsibility and development. Participants signed a Summit Declaration and a number of bilateral cooperation agreements.

All the ASEAN representatives agreed that promotion of radio and television cooperation would help push forward the China-ASEAN strategic partnership.-Enditem
