EU to send Election Observation Mission to Cambodia

Phnom Penh (VNA) – The European Union (EU) is expected to officially send a mission including 120 observers to Cambodia’s upcoming National Assembly elections scheduled in July, 2008, said the European Commission's Acting Chief Representative to Cambodia Dochao Moreno. Two memorandum of understandings underscoring the EU’s decision will be signed at the end of this week by representatives from EU and those from the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Electoral Commission, Acting Chief Representative Dochao added. If approved, this will be the third time EU Election Observation Mission to be sent to Cambodia after the first in 2003 and the second in 2007. The mission will join with other observers from the US and non-governmental organisations to observe the National Assembly elections to be held on July 27, 2008.-Enditem
