Deputy PM inspects preparations for Vesak

Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem said it is necessary to increase public awareness about Buddhism’s values of humanity and peace and Vietnam ’s religious and belief freedom policies.

The deputy PM made the statement while inspecting preparatory works for the United Nations Day of Vesak at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi on May 12.

Deputy PM Khiem also said the UN Day of Vesak, the most important Buddhist festival which will run in Hanoi from May 13-17, is an event of great significance for the world and Vietnam.

He asked relevant agencies to work closely with the National Coordinating Committee for the Organisation of Vesak to quickly complete remaining preparatory works.

Nguyen The Doanh, head of the Government’s Committee for Religious Affairs and head of the National Coordinating Committee for the Organisation, said all preparatory works have basically completed.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Do Quy Doan said on the afternoon of May 13, a press centre will officially be opened at the National Convention Centre.
