Hong Kong group donates to education development

Hanoi (VNA) – Hong Kong-based Sun Wah Group has pledged 1 million USD to help boost education development in disadvantaged areas of Vietnam .

The donation will come from the Sun Wah Fund, which was established under an agreement between the Ministry of Education and Training and the Sun Wah Group signed in Hanoi on May 13 .

For the next five years, the Sun Wah Fund will be used to send highly able disadvantaged students to study law, finance and information technology in China , build schools in rural and remote areas, improve teachers’ professional skills and support disabled children.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Sun Wah Group President Jonathan Choi said the group, which began operation in Vietnam 38 years ago, hopes the establishment of the fund will help boost mutual exchange, understanding and socio-economic cooperation between China and Vietnam .

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien commended the Sun Wah Group’s assistance. He said the fund would help strengthen Vietnam ’s efforts in improving education in impoverished areas and narrow the development gap among regions.-Enditem
