Germany treats waste water in Mekong provinces

14/05/2008 -- 4:20 PM

Soc Trang (VNA) – The German Organisation for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) has provided 4.5 million Euros in aid to improve waste water treatment in the Mekong Delta provinces of Dong Thap, Soc Trang and Vinh Long.

This second phase of GTZ’s waste water treatment project for urban areas and industrial zones in the three provinces is currently underway in Soc Trang.

The phase’s focus is to provide training courses to improve local staff capacity to manage and operate waste water treatment facilities.

The aid will also support the supply of equipment and advanced technology for waste water treatment systems, set up a waste water treatment laboratory and launch public awareness campaigns of environmental protection.

In the first phase of the project, GTZ helped Soc Trang develop a blueprint to establish a water drainage company worth nearly 2.8 million Euros.-Enditem
