Indonesia’s 13 new fields to boost oil production

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas regulator BPMigas has announced that 13 oil and gas fields would start producing this year, helping to secure the country's oil production target of 977,000 barrels a day.

According to the Jakarta Post newspaper on May 14, among the fields are the Tangguh gas block in Papua operated by British-based energy giant BP, the Cepu block in East Java owned by US-based oil firm Exxon and the Mahakam block in East Kalimantan of the France 's Total.

The new wells are estimated to have an additional combined oil and gas production of 47,100 barrels of oil equivalent per day, with 9,300 of which estimated to be oil, BPMigas Chairman Priyono was cited as saying in a press briefing on May 13.

“We are optimistic we can reach the 977,000 barrel-per-day oil production target,” he said, adding that Indonesia’s oil production had reached 955,847 barrels per day in January and gradually climbed up to 978,960 in April.- Enditem
