KRP’s candidate list not yet okayed

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia’s National Election Committee announced on May 14 they had not accepted the nominee list of the Khmer Republic Party (KRP) for the July parliamentary election as it lacked some necessary changes and additions. KRP Chairman Lon Rith is not currently in Cambodia , having travelled to the US on May 13 to call for financial support from communities of overseas Khmer people in the US , Canada and Australia . Lon Rith is the son of General Lon Nol, the former defence minister and army chief of staff in King Norom Sihanouk’s government who led a coup to depose King Sihanouk in 1970. Cambodian voters are waiting to see whether Lon Rith’s KRP, founded in the middle of 2007, will follow the direction of his father’s political approach.- Enditem
