Thai PM says cabinet reshuffle to change three seats only

16/05/2008 -- 5:06 PM

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej has announced the upcoming Cabinet reshuffle would affect no more than three positions and would not involve PM Office Minister Jakrapob Penkair, reported local media.

The seat left vacant following the resignation of Social Development and Human Security Minister Sutha Chansaeng would be filled, PM Samak was cited as saying.

Other changes might affect the two Cabinet members facing allegations of hiding assets, he added.

Minister Sutha had earlier tendered his resignation, citing health problems. Public Health Minister Chaiya Sasomsap and Deputy Commerce Minister Wiroon Techapaiboon have announced their intention to remain in office while fighting legal battles resulting from discrepancies in the compulsory submission of their and their spouses' financial reports.

In confirming the reshuffle would not involve Minister Jakrapob, the PM quashed rumours that his Office Minister would be replaced as a result of a controversial speech about Thailand’s patronage system he made at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand following the September 2006 coup, according to local media. –Enditem
