Singapore speaks of DPRK’s interest in closer cooperation

16/05/2008 -- 5:06 PM

Hanoi (VNA) – The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has shown its interest in promoting cooperation with Singapore, said Singaporean Foreign Minister George Yeo after a five-day visit to the country.

Citing the minister, the Channel News Asia network said the DPRK had indicated the wish to attract more Singaporean businesses to the country and to see broader cooperation between the two countries in the areas of science, technology and culture.

In his first official visit to the DPRK, which ended on May 14, Minister Yeo led a business delegation of eight companies from the textile, info-comm technology, business services, infrastructure services, transport and logistics industries to explore business and trade opportunities with the DPRK.

Two-way trade between Singapore and the DPRK reached 83.7 million USD last year, according to the Channel News Asia. –Enditem
