Korean nuclear talks may resume in June

16/05/2008 -- 9:18 PM

Seoul (VNA) – The six-party talks on the Korean nuclear issue are likely to restart before June 15, the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s top nuclear negotiator Kim Sook said on May 16.

The talks are expected to be held in the first half of June if consultations among related nations and preparations go well, Kim Sook was quoted by the RoK’s Yonhap news agency as saying.

Also to be discussed are the finalisation of the second stage of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK)’s denuclearisation process and the mapping out of plans for the third stage of the DPRK’s dismantling nuclear programmes, Kim Sook said.

The DPRK said on May 15 it will show determination to dismantle its nuclear programmes if the US eliminates the DPRK from its list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

Last week, the DPRK handed over to the US some 18,000 pages of records on its nuclear programmes. –Enditem
