Deputy PM praises Vietnam-China developing relations

Quang Ninh (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem affirmed that Vietnam-China friendship and cooperation in many fields have been continually developed.

The Deputy PM made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the First Conference of the Joint Working Committee among Vietnam’s Cao Bang, Lang Son and Quang Ninh provinces and China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, held in northern Quang Ninh province on May 16.

Deputy PM Khiem took the occasion to express his deep sympathy to the Chinese Party, government and people over the great loss of life and property caused by the recent earthquake in Sichuan province.

Speaking on matters of the conference, he asked participants to review implementation of their agreement to share experiences and maintain regular meetings of locality leaders.

He urged the localities to boost exchanges between their common border districts, expand trade, investment and tourism cooperation to develop to their full potential, and strengthen cooperation under the framework of “two corridors, one economic belt”.

The conference discussed measures to further boost trade, investment and tourism cooperation among the localities, implement customs clearance facilitation, speed up border demarcation in 2008, and cooperate in human resource training.

A memorandum of understanding is scheduled to be signed by Vietnamese provinces and the Chinese region on May 17.

The Joint Working Committee among Cao Bang, Lang Son and Quang Ninh provinces of Vietnam and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China was established following an agreement signed in Nanning , China on August 6, 2007.

The committee is charged to implement agreements of the two countries’ leaders and carry out the practical work and mechanisms under the guidelines of the Vietnam-China Bilateral Cooperation Committee.-Enditem
