Beijing (VNA) – China has received 6.023 billion yuan (roughly 861.7 million USD) in cash and goods for earthquake relief from donors at home and abroad as of May 17. Of the total money, domestic donations reached 4.905 billion yuan (about 701.7 million USD. On the same day, rescue operations gradually shifted to rural areas impacted by the quake, local media reported. The death toll from the powerful earthquake in southwest China 's Sichuan province has risen to 28,881 as of 2 p.m. of May 17, while 198,347 people were injured, according to the Information Office of the State Council. A total of 15.61 million houses in quake areas were damaged, with 3.13 million collapsed.
