Tokyo (VNA) – Chairman of the Japanese Friendship Exchange Council (FEC) Chihiro Kanagawa was conferred with Vietnam ’s friendship order on May 27 for his contributions to boosting the Japan-Vietnam relations.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Nguyen Phu Binh made the presentation in recognition of Chairman Kanagawa’s work to enhance economic and cultural exchange between Japanese and Vietnamese people and helping develop the two countries’ relations.

Addressing the ceremony in Tokyo , Chairman Kanagawa said the decoration by Vietnam ’s President Nguyen Minh Triet was an award for not only the chairman himself but all FEC staff, particularly the Japan-Vietnam Economic and Cultural Exchange Committee.

He said FEC will exert more efforts to foster the friendship between the two countries through exchange initiatives, such as inviting Vietnamese students to attend training courses at FEC-member institutions.

Launched in May 1983, FEC is a non-profit organisation that aims to boost friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and other countries.

Since 1996, FEC has set up committees in charge of other countries and regions, including the Japan-Vietnam Economic and Cultural Exchange Committee, to promote friendship between Japan and other countries and regions through economic exchange activities.-Enditem
