Party leader starts official China tour

Hanoi (VNA) – Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh begins a four-day official visit to China on May 30 at the invitation of the Chinese Party General Secretary and President, Hu Jintao.

General Secretary Manh is scheduled to meet with President Hu and the chairman of the Standing Committee on China ’s National People’s Congress, Wu Bangguo, before signing cooperation documents.

He is expected to have talks with the Chinese Prime Minister, Wen Jiabao, on May 31 before visiting Beijing Stadium.

The Party leader’s visit to China is aimed at fostering friendship and comprehensive co-operation, which have made considerable progress in recent years.

Since normalisation of diplomatic ties in 1991, Vietnam and China have signed 54 State-level agreements and 59 co-operation documents, creating a legal foundation for long-term co-operation.

Economic ties have been considerably developed with China becoming Vietnam ’s top partner with two-way trade reaching 15 billion USD in 2007, a year-on-year increase of 44 percent.

In 2006, China ranked 15 th among 74 countries and territories investing in Vietnam . It had total registered investment capital of more than 843 million USD.-Enditem
