Hanoi (VNA) – About 150 delegates from 30 countries are gathering in Hanoi for the 31 st Asian Pacific Postal Union Executive Council (APPU-EC) meeting, which opened in Hanoi on June 9.

The five-day meeting focuses on matters such as domestic express mail services ( EMS ), mail security and e-business.

According to the Ministry of Information and Communication, several new postal services will be outlined at the meeting such as e-post from the Republic of Korea .

Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Nguyen Thanh Hung said the event would discuss and harmonise regional views on proposals for the Universal Postal Union Congress later this year in Geneva , Switzerland .

Hung also said the event is expected to help Vietnam gain more practical experiences from member countries as the country continues to develop its postal sector.

Vietnam is updating the set of laws surrounding the post in order to guide postal activities and control new market development, especially the participation of domestic and foreign logistics companies, Hung said.

Vietnam would also raise the quality of postal services by separating the post from telecommunications and establishing an independent postal enterprise, according to Hung.-Enditem
