Vietnam, US inquire into possibility for educational cooperation

10/06/2008 -- 4:36 PM

New York (VNA) – A delegation of the Ministry of Education and Training, led by permanent Deputy Minister Banh Tien Long, on June 9 began a working visit to the US to promote bilateral cooperation in education and training.

The delegation worked with some US higher education institutions and universities on a cooperation programme, aiming at a basic and comprehensive renewal of Vietnam ’s university education. The cooperation is expected to create basic changes in the quality, effectiveness and scale of Vietnam ’s university education to meet the country’s industrialisation, modernisation and international economic integration requirements.

The delegation’s working sessions focus on the establishment of university complexes in Vietnam and the US support for Vietnam to build universities to meet its human resource development need.

The two sides also discussed how to promote cooperation in training of lecturers for Vietnamese universities, assistance for Vietnam to set up a system for accreditation of university education, and accelerate cooperation between Vietnam ’s leading universities and US prestigious universities in implementation of advanced training projects.-Enditem
