Prime Minister calls for price control over staples

10/06/2008 -- 9:56 PM

Hanoi (VNA)- Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has called for provinces to tighten control over the price of food, medicines and other daily essentials.

The government leader made the call during online dialogues from his office in Hanoi on June 10 with leaders of central Binh Thuan province, Central Highlands Kon Tum province, Bac Lieu province and Can Tho city in the Mekong Delta, and the southern-tip Ca Mau province.

He urged them to ensure good supplies of food for the poor, speed up administrative reforms, maintain social stability and improve traffic safety.

“Efforts should be made to complete projects that use State budgets or Government bonds scheduled for this year,” PM Dung said.

“In urgent cases, the Ministry of Planning and Investment should allocate 2009 budgets in advance in order to speed up their tempos.”

He also asked them to take firm measures in fulfilling local targets to contribute to the national GDP growth rate of 7 percent this year.

“Production, especially agriculture and fisheries, should be in focus for investment in an effort to tap these local strengths,” PM Dung told leaders of the three coastal provinces Binh Thuan, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau and the nation’s rice bowl Can Tho.

“Success in these tasks would not only make a great contribution to GDP growth but also help ensure social stability,” the Government leader said.-Enditem
