Hanoi (VNA) – Danish Deputy Prime Minister Bendt Bendtsen has affirmed his country’s support for stronger Vietnam-European Union cooperation.
During his talks with visiting Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Sinh Hung in Denmark on June 10, the Danish Deputy PM said Denmark backed Vietnam to continue enjoying the EU’s Generalised System of Preferences in the 2009-2011 period.
Denmark also supported the early granting of the market economy status to Vietnam by the EC.
Deputy PM Bendtsen took the occasion to announce his government has officially approved a 40 million USD aid package to Vietnam in devising and implementing a national climate change and energy saving programme.
He praised Vietnam ’s renewal achievements and said he was happy at the development of the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries.
Deputy PM Hung informed the host of Vietnam ’s socio-economic development, particularly high economic growth and FDI attraction despite unfavourable economic conditions in the world.
He also confirmed Vietnam ’s determination to curb inflation, stabilise macro-economy and ensure social welfare and sustainable development in the medium and long-term.
Deputy PM Hung thanked the Danish Government and people for giving constant support and top priority to Vietnam in their development assistance policy. Denmark is now the leading official development assistance (ODA) donor in the EU for Vietnam .
He hailed Denmark ’s decision to choose Vietnam as the only destination in Asia for building a pilot cooperation programme on scientific and technological research. The signing of an agreement on a pilot research cooperation programme in the 2008-2010 period between the two Governments during his visit is welcome, Hung said.
Earlier the same day, Deputy PM Hung paid a courtesy visit to Queen Margrethe II.
He took the occasion to thank the Queen, the Royal Family, the State and people of Denmark for their support and assistance to Vietnam over the past decades.
The Queen said she was happy at the new development of the two countries’ friendly cooperation.
After meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Danish National Parliament Soren Espersen, Deputy PM Hung left Denmark for an official visit to Finland.-Enditem
