Hanoi (VNA) – State President Nguyen Minh Triet said his tour of Austria, Norway and Greece concluded successfully to give a boost to Vietnam’s future wide-ranging ties with those countries.
Speaking with media after his return to Hanoi on June 11, President Triet said the visits marked new milestones in Vietnam’s bilateral relationships with the three European countries, pushing the ties to grow in a broader manner for the sake of each.
There was important progress in overall cooperation between Vietnam and Austria, Norway and Greece in the past, President Triet said.
However, he said he hoped that following the visits, Vietnam's economic, investment and trade, and even cultural, scientific and educational ties with those countries would be broadened further.
President Triet said he discussed with the European countries’ leaders orientations and measures to bolster bilateral economic, investment and trade ties as it still remains very modest compared with each country’s potential.
The Vietnamese leader affirmed Vietnam always welcomes and provides favourable conditions for businesspeople from those countries to do business in Vietnam, and expect those countries to do the same for Vietnamese businesses.
Recalling activities during the trip which lasted from June 2-10, President Triet said Austrian, Norwegian and Greek leaders he met all praised Vietnam’s foreign policy and its growing role and prestige in the international arena.
The leaders also hailed Vietnam’s responsible and active contributions to world peace and security while acting as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, the President noted.
President Triet also recalled his meetings with representatives of big businesses in Europe and witnessing of the signing of cooperation accords between governments and economic deals between businesses during his first ever visit to those countries.-Enditem
