Khanh Hoa (VNA) – Doctors on the USNS Mercy hospital ship of the US will perform surgery for 88 children with cleft lips and cleft palates in central Khanh Hoa province and its neighbouring localities.
The free surgery, to be conducted under the 2008 Asia-Pacific Cooperation Progamme, will be joined by doctors from the Operation Smile Inc.
The USNS Mercy hospital ship plans to conduct free surgery on around 350 children with facial deformities in the Philippines , Vietnam , East Timor, Papua New Guinea in four months, starting in May.
Meanwhile, four professors and 24 doctors from the Palmer College of the US have checked and treated 1,600 patients with diseases related to back, bones and muscles, and physical problems caused by traffic and occupational accidents.
This mission, that took place from June 18- 21 at An Nhon and Phu My clinics and the general hospital of Phu Phong, was the second of doctors of the Palmer College in Binh Dinh province.
Palmer college doctors also donated 40 set of blood pressure monitors and stethoscopes, medicine, rice to the three medical centres. They visited and presented gifts to the provincial social support centre.-Enditem
