Over 150 patients get surgery aboard hospital ship

Khanh Hoa (VNA) – More than 150 patients, mostly children, have undergone operations for birth deformities aboard the hospital ship USNS Mercy.

The USNS Mercy ship dropped its anchor off central Khanh Hoa province on June 19 to conduct a 10-day humanitarian mission in the country.

A joint exercise between the US military, the Canadian, Australian, Singaporean and South Korean governments as well as non-government organisations, the mission is providing free medical check-ups, surgery and construction of medical facilities.

In addition to treatment onboard the ship, volunteer doctors have gone ashore to provide check-ups and treatment as well as free medicine for more than 3,000 patients in Dien Khanh district and Nha Trang city.

The mission is being conducted under the Pacific Partnership Project- Enditem
