Japan helps Hanoi in liquid waste treatment

30/06/2008 -- 11:26 AM

Hanoi (VNA)- A Japanese consultancy partnership, the Nippon Koei-Viwase, is conducting a feasibility study on two liquid waste treatment projects on the outskirts of Hanoi .

One of the two projects will cover 13 ha in Thanh Tri district at a cost of 36.1 billion JNY and the other on 6 ha in Tu Liem district at 39.1 billion JNY.

These will be the two largest of its kind in Hanoi, ensuring liquid waste treatment for five inner precincts and two outskirts districts by 2017.

The project in Thanh Tri has been designed to treat 135,000 cu.m. daily in the initial stage and double the capacity in the second stage. The other one will have a daily capacity of 21,000 cu.m., which will increase by 3 or 5 fold in the second stage.

Nguyen Le, General Director of the Hanoi sewage company, said the capital city now discharges an estimated 510,000 cu.m. of liquid waste a day, including a large volume of toxic wastes from industrial zones and hospitals. Just between five and seven percent of the volume are treated by standards measures.

In addition to the above-mentioned projects, Hanoi is preparing to build a large-sized liquid waste treatment factory inside the Thong Nhat park and the other one by the Yen So lake with financial assistance from a Malaysian group.

The capital city is running two liquid waste treatment stations with limited capacity.--Enditem
