Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam ’s Truong Thanh Hang won her third gold medal in the women’s 1,500m in the last leg of the Asian Athletics Association Grand Prix in Hanoi on June 30.
Hang, who won two gold medal and set a new record at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Thailand last December, clocked a time of 4:18.75 to beat Svetlana Kukasheva from Kazahkstan and P. Jaisha from India.
Hang also bagged two golds in the two previous legs held in Bangkok and Korat in Thailand .
However, the Ho Chi Minh City born athlete hasn’t secured an automatic pass to the Beijing Olympics in August for which she needs to clock a time of 4:08.00.
At the Asian Athletics Championship in Jordan , last June, Hang was crowned Asian champion in the women’s 800m and grabbed a bronze medal in the 1,500m race.
The third and last leg of the Asian Grand Prix, which was held for the first time in Vietnam attracted 21 countries and territories such as China , Iran , the Republic of Korea , India , Uzbekistan who competed in 21 events. As the host, Vietnam was allowed to enter 22 athletes, in addition to the 10 athletes invited by the Asian Athletics Association.-Enditem
