Extremists’ evil plot disclosed

03/07/2008 -- 10:08 PM

Hanoi (VNA) – A number of extremists are devising a plot to use the serious health condition of senior Buddhist monk to bring out their illegal organisation called “Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam.”

As Most Venerable Thich Huyen Quang, 89, from the Nguyen Thieu Monastery in central Binh Dinh province is seriously ill in hospital, the group has attempted to take over the organisation of a funeral in case the Most Venerable cannot recover.

Most Venerable Thich Huyen Quang was admitted to Quy Nhon hospital in May and the Binh Dinh authorities have asked the hospital to provide the monk with the best treatment.

The provincial Buddhist Executive Board has discussed with Venerable Thich Minh Tuan and a number of monks at the Nguyen Thieu Monastery preparations for a solemn Buddhist funeral in case Most Venerable Quang dies.

Local pagodas will also assist the monastery in organising pray services for the senior Buddhist monk.

However, the extremist elements disguising as Buddhist monks who have been working to sabotage the Vietnamese state and counter to the interest of the nation like Thich Quang Do, Thich Khong Tanh, Vien Dinh and their henchmen, urged Venerable Thich Minh Tuan and the disciples of the Most Venerable Thich Huyen Quang to bring the ill monk to Ho Chi Minh City or Hue city for treatment with the purpose of putting him and his disciples under their control.

Thich Quang Do also plans to replace Huyen Quang as the Supreme Patriarch of the Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam, calling himself the “Fifth Supreme Patriarch” while appointing Vien Dinh as head of the Institute for the Propagation of the Dharma.

Venerable Thich Minh Tuan and the disciples of Most Venerable Huyen Quang in Binh Dinh have reacted strongly against Quang Do’s scheme. They refused to bring Huyen Quang to Ho Chi Minh City as the senior Buddhist monk is very weak.
The Venerable and the disciples also did not agree to let Thich Quang Do and his group to organise the funeral in case Huyen Quang dies. They said as the Most Venerable Thich Huyen Quang is a senior monk and one of the founders of the Nguyen Thieu Monastery, his disciples together with monks and nuns in Binh Dinh province are capable of hold ing a funeral for him.

Quang Do’s plot has caused discontent not only among Huyen Quang’s disciples but also members of the so-called Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam.

Many senior Buddhist monks and followers of the former Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam expressed their disagreement, saying that if the funeral is held by the group of Quang Do and Vien Dinh, they would not attend the event to avoid being embroiled in political schemes initiated by Quang Do.

Thich Quang Do, with his “deeds” in sabotaging the Vietnamese State , has planned to promote his name in order to campaign, through Vo Van Ai from France , for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2008.

Vien Dinh himself only wants to take advantage of Huyen Quang’s illness and a possible death for his own interest.-Enditem
