Miss Universe contestants visit disadvantaged children

Khanh Hoa (VNA) – More than 60 beauties, who are competing for the Miss Universe 2008 title in central Khanh Hoa province, visited the provincial SOS Children’s Village on July 3.

Chairwoman of the Miss Universe Organisation Paula Mary Shugart and Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa province People’s Committee Nguyen Xuan Than, who is also head of the Miss Universe 2008 Organising Board, donated 100 million to the village.

The Nha Trang SOS Children’s Village was set up nine years ago by SOS International. It is now home to more than 130 disadvantaged children.

The same day, another group of beauties led by Miss Universe 2007 Riyo Morie visited the “Green Club” in Nha Trang city and presented 100 million VND as gift to the club’s members, who are women living with HIV/AIDS.

The pageant organisers also said they will donate at least 100 million VND from ticket sales to the swimsuit show on July 2 to the Nguyen Thai Binh scholarship programme for disadvantaged children.

Miss Mexico Elisa Najera won the title of Vinpearl Land Queen at the swimsuit show. Miss US, Miss Spain , Miss India and Miss Columbia were among the top five.-Enditem
