Nearly 600,000 students take university exams

Hanoi (VNA) – Closets 600,000 students are sitting for two day university entrance exams which begin on July 4 around the country.

They are applying for the “A” group schools which require tests in mathematics, physics, and chemistry.

The tests for school in groups B,C and D will be held from July 8 to 10 and for three-year colleges school in – from July 14 to 16.

The Ministry of Education and Training said 2.2 million candidates have applied this year – the last year that these exams are being held – an increase of 18 percent over last year.

The universities receiving the largest number of applications are National University with 43,274, the Hanoi University of Industry with 36,400, Banking Academy of Vietnam with 25,000, and HCM City Economic University with 30.000.

The Ministry said this year’s enrollment target is 232,634, 12 percent higher than last year.

The ministry has instructed exam councils to ensure candidates find it convenient to take the tests.

Permanent Deputy Minister of Education and Training Banh Tien Long has asked all universities and colleges to ensure security for exams sites.

In a message sent to the educational institutes he asked that exam questions be kept confidential. No one present during the exams- including proctors, supervisors, policement, medical staff – would be allowed to bring mobile phone in.

Long also directed exam organisers to be prepared for any eventuality during an exam, such as blackouts, storms, floods, fires or students falling sick.

The weather was forecast to support students during their exams, said the National Centre for hydrometeorological Forecasting.

The temperature for the next two days has been forecast to be between 26 and 36 Celsius degree with showers only expected late at night.-Enditem
