Beijing (VNA) – China’s capital city of Beijing has finalised its preparatory work and is ready to inaugurate the global largest Olympic Games slated for August 8.

The municipal authority has spent 40 billion USD to develop infrastructure for the games, including a main stadium known as the “Bird Net”, a new terminal at Beijing’s international airport and subway lines. The city also spent over 15 billion USD for anti-pollution measures.

Organisers of the 2008 Olympics has opened media centres for the games, promising to allow live broadcasts from anywhere in the city and full access to the internet. Those centres include the Main Press Centre (MPC) for accredited print journalists and photographers and the Beijing International Media Centre (BIMC) for non-accredited journalists.

The city has also took many anti-terrorism exercises and tighten security measures at subways and airports since June 29.

Besides, various campaigns aimed at improving the behavior of local citizens finally turned the tide. More and more people are getting to abandon bad habits like spitting, not queuing up, smoking anywhere, swearing in Beijing dialect and littering.-Enditem
