Brazilian President attaches importance to Asian tour

15/07/2008 -- 11:39 AM

Buenos Aires (VNA) – Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has described his recent tour to Asian countries, including Vietnam, as very important.

President Lula da Silva said in a weekly programme broadcast by Radio Brazil on July 14 that Brazil assumed the commitments to increase trade with Vietnam and Indonesia and proposed to contribute knowledge and experience to East Timor for its development.

During his visit to Vietnam from July 9-10, the two countries signed an agreement on science and technology cooperation, and memorandums of understanding on the establishment of a joint governmental committee, on poverty elimination and sports cooperation.

The two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Brazil has strongly increased over the years, from more than 113 million USD in 2005 to 204 million USD in 2006, and over 323 million USD last year.

Brazil said it considers Vietnam one of its four priority markets in Asia over the next three years.–Enditem
