Universities move to satisfy businesses’ demand for staff

Hanoi (VNA) – Universities nationwide are cooperating with businesses in carrying out their training programmes to improve the quality of education and better meet businesses’ demand for staff. The move is in response to an appeal by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) after a survey indicated that universities chiefly focus on theory, resulting in a fact that every year, only 30 percent of the 200,000 graduates meet recruiters’ requirements. Following MoET’s appeal which was made last year, 300 universities have so far signed cooperative agreements with businesses. The Bac Ha International University signed a contract with the CMC technology group last year, under which CMC directly joins in drawing up textbooks and providing training on business management. The Hanoi National University and the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) signed in March this year a large contract on sci-tech training and research cooperation. Cooperative ties have also been set up between the Ho Chi Minh City Transport and Communication University and STC Group, the Netherlands ’ largest maritime trainer. The two partners are providing maritime training for 220 students with assistance from Stolt Nielsen Group and Wagenborg Shipping of the Netherlands , and MPC-Munchmeyer Petersen Steamship GmbH & Co. KG of Germany . Deputy Minister of Education and Training Banh Tien Long said his ministry will propose the Government permit businesses to spend 2-3 percent of their production costs on vocational training to help create a breakthrough in this cooperation model.-Enditem
