Foreign media offices may be allowed in Laos

Vientiane (VNA) – Foreign news agencies may be allowed to establish offices in Laos, Head of Laos’ media law drafting sub-committee Duangdy Oudthachak has said.

Lao private enterprises will be also allowed to establish their own newspapers, Duangdy Oudthachak said at a meeting of the Lao National Assembly in Vientiane on July 15.

Currently, the private sector in Laos is only allowed to take part in producing contents for television and radio programmes, and magazines, he added.

The draft media law is expected to be adopted by the Lao National Assembly at its on-going session. –Enditem
